Three major new mobile condenters?
Judging from the news and rumors that circulate around the web, Google Phone might be a reality, and we already know how real Apple's iPhone is. I have no doubt that, just as Apple, Google can take the phone to new levels. In fact, I would say that Apple and Google may be among the most to blame for the trend that may replace those old keyboard phones with new multifunctional PDA-style touch screen phones.
While I am far from expert on the mobile phone trends I am excited about this, but I realize that these kinds of phones may carry a hefty price which will make it hard for them to penetrate so wildly to the traditional mobile phone markets. This is where I am seeing a third contender playing a significant role. The "open" mobile phones like Neo1973. It might not seem that way right now, but I think that FIC (a corporation behind Neo1973 and the OpenMoko platform development) could do quite a good job at taking hearts and minds of many people in this new market by attractive pricing, decent enough technical specifications and openness alone.
It will be better and more advanced than traditional mobile phones, yet open and cheaper than Apple iPhone and whatever Google may come up with. FIC is shooting for the mass market here real soon, not coming much behind of either Google or Apple. The phone is being developed in an open way with the community as we speak. The Phase 1 is about to start and the summer will see a significant hardware boost and improvements to the phone. By fall this year Neo will be a phone ready to enter the arena with Apple and Google.
So does FIC, with the OpenMoko project have what it takes to be the third contender for this new market? I believe so, but I would like to see what you think.
Thank you
