GNOME Mobile & Embedded Initiative Announced

A Free Software world in the mobile realm is getting a few major kicks this year, from the OpenMoko project to the increased adoption of GNU/Linux in mobile phones to the more concerted efforts in organizing Free Software offerings for mobile platforms such as the GNOME Mobile & Embedded Initiative being announced today:

"The GNOME Mobile & Embedded Initiative will advance the use, development and commercialization of GNOME components as a mobile and embedded user experience platform. It brings together industry leaders, expert consultants, key developers and the community and industry organizations they represent."

This is great news and adds to the continued development and evolution of the Free Software and standards powered mobile realm. I anticipate we will be hearing more and more about this which is why MobiLiberty.com will only get busier. ;)
