Intel joins OLPC

Meanwhile, “Intel and One Laptop per Child (OLPC) today announced they have agreed to work together to bring the benefits of technology to the developing world through synergy of their respective programs,” says Intel in a statement.

Asus stuns Computex with £100 laptop

Since we sometimes cover the OLPC project this seems quite interesting as the parallel to OLPC is quite obvious.

"Asus chairman Jonney Shih sprang a surprise during Intel's Computex keynote today with the announcement of a $189 laptop.

OLPC 3-day 'game jam'

"Software coders are being asked to develop free, open-source educational computer games for the One Laptop Per Child XO project.

It's offering a laptop prize for teams, "who create new games during a three-day 'game jam' scheduled to begin June 8 on the campus of Olin College, an engineering school in Needham, Massachusetts," says the IDG News Service.

An alternative anti-theft mechanism for OLPC

A potential problem with the OLPC XO laptop is that it could be stolen. Various techniques are used to try to prevent this, for example it is supposed to look unattractive to adults but attractive to children. There's also an optional DRM-like anti-theft mechanism. This requests (through the internet) permission to continue working every day.
